Porcelain Veneers

People who have gaps between their teeth or have chipped, discolored or crooked teeth can sometimes be hesitant to smile because they feel self-conscious about their appearance. If this describes you, then you may interested in learning more about how porcelain veneers can improve your overall appearance and have you smiling from ear to ear without giving it a second thought.

If you are interested in porcelain veneers, the first thing to do is schedule an appointment with your dentist for a comprehensive exam where he or she will inspect your teeth, jaw, head and neck to make sure that you are a good candidate for this procedure. Before you leave the office, your dentist should be able to give you a digital image of what your smile will look like after you have been fitted with porcelain veneers.

This is a type of cosmetic dentistry made of a ceramic material which is as close to the appearance of a real tooth as possible. The dentist applies a bonding adhesive to the front of your tooth and attaches the porcelain veneer to it. They are made of a very thin material which reflects light the same way your regular teeth do. After the procedure is completed, it will be difficult for people to tell the difference between your natural teeth and your porcelain veneers.

The next step is for your dentist to fit you with a set of temporary, plastic veneers while your permanent set is being crafted in a dental laboratory. This will give you the opportunity to see how they will look and feel before the actual procedure is undertaken.

When your completed porcelain veneers arrive from the dental lab, they will be checked to insure the size and exact color are a good fit for your mouth. At this point, the bonding adhesive is applied and your new veneers are permanently attached. You should not experience any pain or other side effects from the procedure, and can brush the new porcelain veneers the same as you would your natural teeth.
