What Are The Benefits of Dental Veneers?

Of the many cosmetic dentistry treatment options, porcelain veneers have become one of the most popular choices. At Infinity Dental in Fox Lake, Dr. Tom Prendergast and Dr. Shepherd offer dental veneers to their Chicago area patients, including high quality porcelain veneers.

Porcelain veneers can be used to correct cosmetic irregularities in the appearance of a patient’ smile as well as to correct a number of dental problems: crooked teeth, gaps between teeth, chipped or broken teeth and stain or discolored teeth.

Of all the dental veneers, porcelain veneers offer patients the most natural looking and long lasting results. Porcelain veneers are made from a translucent shell of porcelain that will reflect light much like a natural tooth, allowing the veneers to blend seamlessly with a patient’s smile. Porcelain veneers are highly stain resistant and durable: with proper oral health care and general dental visits to Dr. Prendergast and Dr. Shepherd at Infinity Dental for preventive care and exams- they can last a lifetime!

Porcelain veneers are permanent, requiring a minor amount of tooth preparation before placing. They will require a couple of visits to complete, with impressions taken at the first visit which will be used by a dental lab to create the custom fit and colored veneers. Dr. Prendergast or Dr. Shepherd will place temporary veneers between visits and will place the final restorations approximately 2 weeks after the initial visit.

As an alternative, Infinity Dental also offers composite resin veneers to Chicago area dental patients. This type of dental veneer requires little to no tooth preparation and is not a “lifetime” solution. Composite resin veneers are sculpted to the tooth and when appropriate can provide patients with a more economical and expedient option.

Dr. Prendergast will perform a thorough evaluation of patients who need or desire dental veneers, examining their entire occlusal system to be sure that the recommended treatment will produce comfortable and long lasting results.
