During this difficult time, we want to remind our patients to continue to take care of their teeth, as several dental problems may arise from stress. Patients may be more prone to issues such as TMJ, mouth sores, and gum disease. Dr. Thomas Prendergast is a dentist in Fox Lake, IL that is passionate about the health and safety of his patients. Here are some dental tips to remember:
Improve Your Home Routine
Practicing social distancing or self-quarantine? Dedicate some of this new time at home as dental care “me time.” Take the opportunity to be especially meticulous with your home hygiene. Brush regularly with fluoride toothpaste and a soft-bristle brush, floss, and use mouthwash every day. Take this opportunity to try brushing after every meal, not just twice a day. Is your routine already especially thorough? When you are bored and alone at home it can be tempting to snack on unhealthy food. Processed sugars in junk foods are one of the leading causes of tooth decay. Rather than candy or chips, try snacking on mouth-healthy celery or cheese.
